Specializations
We do not look at your struggles in isolation. We specialize in complex care, compounding issues, and intersectional identities.
Using Narrative Therapy and Art Therapy techniques through optional proprietary courses called Writing for Wellness© and Conscious Creativity©, or just via traditional talk therapeutic Peer Support techniques, Mood Mend Peer Support helps you externalize depression, bipolar disorder, or anxiety, moving you away from pathologizing labels so you can mend your mood, reclaim your agency, and author and step into a preferred story for your life! The problem is the problem, you are not the problem, and the problem is an unmet need. "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." ~ Carl Jung. Eleanor’s practice is built on cultivating self-compassion. Personality disorders also within scope. Writing for Wellness© and Conscious Creativity© can be offered both one-on-one to clients in recovery or to corporate or non-profit clients in group settings to help boost team morale, performance and productivity. FAST FACT: 50% of those suffering with major depressive disorder will also experience symptoms of anxiety and/or will meet diagnostic criteria for an anxiety disorder.
We provide specialized, individualized, trauma-informed support to survivors of abuse, intergenerational trauma, and C-/PTSD, with dedicated expertise in supporting survivors of childhood sexual trauma and/or incest, as 1 in 10 Canadians have experienced childhood sexual abuse/sexual trauma. You are not alone, please reach out! A highlight of services offered at Mood Mend is that we have specialized experience working with male survivors - so please, men, don't let stigma stop you from seeking support! (NOTE: Female perpetrators account for roughly 10% to 25% of all child sexual abuse cases; though, overall, 97-99% of all reported sexual assaults are committed by male perpetrators.) Eleanor also has specialized experience working with men with trauma in incarceral environments or with histories of incarceration in the field and framework of prison abolition and restorative justice. “Modern reforms attempt to mask the cruelty of caging. Our goals are not diverted by handsome new facades, the language of 'treatment' and prison managers who deftly gild the bars." ~ Fay Honey Knopp, radical pacifist, Prison Research Education Action Project (PREAP). Trauma support is only offered on a one-on-one basis, though testimonial speaking engagements or psychoeducation lunch and learn series around trauma can be arranged for corporate or non-profit clients and for educational institutions.
Non-judgemental, Harm Reduction and managed use based, not abstinence-only/12-Step based addictions and substance use support (though Mood Mend will of course support you if abstinence is your goal). Mood Mend meets you where you are at on your journey and helps you get where you want to go. You lead, Eleanor facilitates! Eleanor designed Harm Reduction 101© curricula for CAMH's Collaborative Learning College with founder of Moss Park back when it was still a peer-led, volunteer-run, illegal, tent in the park, before becoming a bricks-and-mortar OPS, Matt Johnson, and it can be adapted for delivery to you or your organization. FAST FACTS: Of the 70% of the adult population who uses drugs and/or alcohol, 80-90% of them DO NOT meet DSM criteria for "addiction"/substance use disorder. Only 10-20% of drug and alcohol users, including those struggling with mental illness, DO, and only 1% of Canadians live on the street, though some mental illnesses have higher rates of concurrent substance use disorder e.g. 30% of those with mood disorders overall will have a SUD or AUD, whereas over 55% of people with bipolar disorder specifically will have a SUD or AUD, and about 75% veterans with PTSD are likely to. Harm Reduction saves lives! Harm Reduction support is only offered on a one-on-one basis, though testimonial speaking engagements, Harm Reduction education lunch and learn series, or Harm Reduction 101© course facilitation can be arranged for corporate or non-profit clients or in educational settings.
Because eating disorders carry the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and receive the least amount of mental health funding, Mood Mend fights the deadly stigma of who "looks sick enough" - as only 6% of those with EDs live in smaller bodies and 25%, 1 in 4, are male though make up only 10%, 1 in 10, of those in treatment and media depictions - by helping individuals in all bodies and of all genders move past endless remission, recoverING in FOREVERY never recoverED, to become fully recovered (as per the Carolyn Costin Institute’s definition of “full recovery”) and break the stigma. Your recovery matters! Personalized service plans - including one-on-one meal coaching, grocery shopping, meal prep, and intuitive eating practice guidance. FAST FACTS: Almost 10% of male high school wrestlers report inducing vomiting at least once a week to maintain their weight class. Up to 50% of queer youth admit to engaging in disordered eating behaviours. 30% of people with EDs have a history of childhood sexual trauma. 60% of those with anorexia nervosa have experienced an episode of major depression in their lives; 80% of those with bulimia nervosa meet DSM criteria for an anxiety disorder. And, almost 60% of ED patients meet diagnostic criteria for Bipolar Disorder Type 2, specifically. Weight is not worth! Eating Disorders support is only offered on a one-on-one basis, though testimonial speaking engagements, lunch and learn psychoeducation series on EDs, and Eleanor's specialized Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating Peer Support Group©, designed for CAMH’s Collaborative Learning College, can be adapted for group facilitation for corporate or non-profit clients or for educational institutions.
For one-on-one clients - Mood Mend Peer Support offers culturally responsive, socially progressive care tailored to your specific needs that centers BIPOC and queer experiences, utilizing Black theory and crit, feminist, gender expansive, and queer theories to support queer and BIPOC folk struggling with mental health and substance use challenges; we also offer specialized support to clients in queer or straight interracial relationships and those on the spectrum looking to navigate the world of love (with particular insight into neurodivergence and asexual/aromantic orientations). For corporate and non-profit clients - Eleanor designed B{L}ACC© - a Black Afro Caribbean Canadian Critical Conversation Group - for CAMH's Collaborative Learning College, and welcomes the opportunity to facilitate it in your Black recovery space! "Nobody's free until everybody's free." ~ Frannie Lou Hamer, Civil Rights activist. Eleanor also offers testimonial speaking engagements as someone queer and of colour with SPMI (severe and persistent mental illness) and neurodivergence navigating the mental health system, and lunch and learn psychoeducation series on queer and BIPOC mental health for corporate or non-profit clients or for educational institutions.
Compassionate, trauma-informed support for all survivors of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence) & Domestic Violence; Eleanor also has specialized training and experience working with male survivors of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence) & Domestic Violence, a forgotten or unspoken demographic, as 50% of all domestic violence is, statistically, reciprocal violence and, boys and men - age range starting 12-18+ - are not permitted in domestic violence shelters, which are exclusively geared toward women and their children in Canada; and note - queer relationships are twice as likely to be violent than heteronormative relationships. Eleanor has facilitated men’s support groups for organizations looking to build domestic violence shelters for men and their children and who work with good fathers facing parental alienation and other issues in family court. We should never call anyone a single parent, but instead call it an absentee father/mother/mapa/pama family - why do we blame, shame, and stigmatize the parent who stayed? IPV (Intimate Partner Violence) & Domestic Violence support is only offered on a one-on-one basis, though testimonial speaking engagements or lunch and learn education series can be arranged for corporate or non-profit clients or for educational institutions.

Meet Eleanor
As a cis queer (— biromantic and demisexual) woman of colour (biracial — Black and White), I live and work at the intersection of complex identities. I have navigated SPMI, C-PTSD, substance use, ADHD, ASD, physical disability, and racism as a consumer/survivor of the mental health and addictions system. And as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, I help clients from a place of lived experience to aid their recovery.
I have been in recovery for over 15 years and today, I leverage my lived experience, formal education, and over a decade of mental health and Harm Reduction experience and expertise to empower clients on their unique paths to recovery by helping them, using the principles of Narrative Therapy and Peer Support, to change problem saturated life narratives — from survive, to thrive!
